Shopping

There are more than 200 duty free shops in Livigno. The primary offerings are spirits, tobacco products, cosmetics and clothing. Bargains can however also be made in other areas. For example stainless steel products from Italy or sugar, which is about half price compared to home.

All shops strictly adhere to the opening hours which are 9am to 12.30pm and 2.30pm to 7pm. It can be frustating at times when you can't shop around lunch time but then you have to remember that you are here to relax.

Fuel
Because there are no taxes fuel is very inexpensive
compared to other European countries.

Current prices for fuel are (26.12.97):

  • Regular: appr. 1,00 DM/Liter (appr. US$ 2,08/gal)
  • Super : appr. 1,04 DM/Liter (appr. US$ 2,10/gal)
  • Diesel: appr. 0,60 DM/Liter (appr. US$ 1,25/gal)

Products of all major companies in the fashion world are offered in Livigno unfortunaly not always cheaper than elsewhere. While prices in other countries came down lately Livigno is still on the up probably due to its increased popularity.
Here you can buy cameras and other electronics. Prices are reasonable but can't always be compared due to different product specifications.

Prices of spirits and other goods are mostly identical in all shops which leads to the assumption that there may be a certain level of communication among the shop owners. Exceptions are hard to find and dealt in secret. If there is no time for market analysis, the 'Cooperativa di Consumo' in the village center is always a good buy. It is constantly crowded which proves the previous statement.

This is the well equipped spirits department of the 'Cooperativa di Consumo'

Pure alcohol for making your own fruit liquors, appr. 6,00DM/Liter
Marinated 'Funghi Porcini' mushrooms
Apple Strudel
Gordon's Dry Gin
