Livigno is a cold pit. With outside temperatures
frequently below minus 20 degrees centigrade quite a few of the motorhome
owners all of a sudden can't enjoy their hobby anymore. Any deficiencies
in design, workmanship and/or service of a motorhome will now show up,
without mercy for the poor inhabitant.
Particular problem areas are:

Poor insulation between driver cabin and living area
(see pictures above)

The diesel jellies out in pump and filter and renders
them useless

The motor does not start due to low battery capacity
caused by low temperature

Fresh water hoses, sewage hoses and dump valves freeze
-
Humidity condensates in cold spots
-
Windows freeze shut and prevent air exchange
-
Temperature in the living area to low due to insufficient
heating system
 Sometimes
it takes the whole morning until motors and water systems are brought back
to life using hair dryers, welding torches and even professional gas heaters.
Here the Italian motorhome owners show a tremendous willingness to help

Counter measures for example are:

Up to 10% regular gas (not super) mixed in with the
diesel. This prevents jellying out

Installation of a heated diesel filter
-
Proper battery maintenance, early renewal if in doubt

Installation of a solid, well insulated wall between
driver cabin and living area
-
Proper maintenance of the heating system (ducts,
blowers, filters)
-
If necessary the upgrade to a more powerful heating
system or additional ducts
-
Proper ventilation to get rid of the humidity in
the car
